The band was founded by guitarist and singer Blake Schwarzenbach after the breakup of his old band, Jawbreaker. Blake rounded out the band with Jeremy Chatlain, of Insight, Helmet, and Handsome, on bass and Chris Daly, of Texas Is The Reason and Resurrection, on drums (they also added Brian Maryansky on second guitar after the record's release).
