Felix, why did you choose the DSI?
For me, the combination of theory from university with the real everyday life in the company was the decisive aspect. The fixed salary from the employer also provides a lot of security. I signed the contract before I finished school. I didn’t really know what to expect at the time, but today I can say that it was the right decision.
What is the atmosphere like at the University of Bremen?
For me, the atmosphere was very relaxed, but I think it depends on what you make of it yourself. In the first semesters, you sit in modules with hundreds of other students. I think the most important thing there is to find a group of fellow students with whom you fit together on a personal level and share similar performance goals. Apart from that, I found that the professors, lecturers and all other relevant people were always very helpful when I approached them.

What specifically did you do and learn there?
As part of your work at Dataport, you pass through various areas. From IT consulting, IT support, software testing and development, everything is included. A large part of the time is not spent working on “throwaway projects” for trainees, but on actual customer projects. The aim is to have found the most interesting area for you after the DSI.
What should someone who is thinking about doing the DSI know?
For me, the DSI at the university is something special. Some of my friends are also doing a dual study program, but none of them are at a normal university. Most of them are at colleges, which often involves class structures and sometimes special semester times. If you want to do a dual study program and still want to experience normal university life, you can combine it all in the DSI. You also get to know many “non-dual” students during your studies, which I found very pleasant. The concept also has a well-integrated education.
